The Loom

The Loom (Transparency)

Where threads are shown and knots are named. We weave in the open so trust can breathe.

Why we keep an open ledger

Mythic: In the longhouse, the loom stands by the fire. Every strand declares its color; every knot is tied in daylight.

Plain: Transparency protects the people we serve. This page explains how we make and share media, who owns what, how support is valued, and how we guard culture and safety.

Our lanes (who does what)

  • Alaska Úlfhéðnar (nonprofit): mission, guidance & circles, public education, cultural safeguards, accessibility, governance.
  • AKUMedia (media distribution agency): recording, editing, hosting, distribution, web & routine tech operations.
  • Alaska Outlaws LLC (brand owner for our media deliverables): owns brand assets and master recordings for media deliverables.

Why this structure? It keeps mission and public benefit at the nonprofit, while specialized media + brand ownership live with entities built for those tasks.

Ownership & license

  • Ownership: Alaska Outlaws LLC owns the brands and masters for our media deliverables.
  • License to the nonprofit: Alaska Úlfhéðnar holds an exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to use those works for public benefit.
  • Editorial control: The nonprofit keeps final editorial say on public releases to honor cultural and safety safeguards.

In-kind technology support

  • Routine media ops and tech (hosting, security, maintenance) provided by AKUMedia may be recognized as in-kind support at fair-market value (FMV).
  • We record FMV with matching entries (contribution + expense) so books reflect the true cost of access.
  • Larger nonprofit-originated projects may be documented by separate Board resolution.

Cultural & safety safeguards

  • Consent to record; restricted knowledge stays off-camera/off-mic.
  • Remove/Redact window: if harm is named, we remove or redact within five business days where reasonably possible.
  • Accessibility: captions and transcripts; reasonable accommodation by request.
  • Non-clinical guidance: we do not diagnose or provide therapy. Crisis: 911 / 988 (U.S.).

Conflicts & related-party items

  • Any director tied to AKUMedia or Alaska Outlaws LLC discloses and recuses.
  • Disinterested directors review FMV comparables and vote; minutes record the basis.
  • See also: House Laws (Policies).

What we’ll publish

  • Plain-English annual summary of activities, partnerships, and access metrics (e.g., sliding-scale usage, captions/transcripts delivered).
  • Annual totals of in-kind support at FMV (rolled up), and any major board-approved projects.
  • Brief note on safeguards invoked (e.g., remove/redact fulfilled).
